Pass
as Normal

Video games invite us to play all manner of roles from heroes to victims and everything in between. Some games stand out for inviting us into a role that is intentionally difficult for us to fulfil. This can be because we don't have the equipment, attributes or even the body it requires.

This list of games is inspired by Bonnie Ruberg's chapter on how Octodad can be considered to be a game about "passing". "Like LGBTQ subjects who may or may not pass as straight or cisgender, the game's protagonist finds himself constantly under the surveilling gaze of the humans around him." It brings together games that invite you to "pass" in a role when others in the game are likely to find you out.
