Into The Restless Ruins is a dungeon-building action game where you create and then enter a dungeon night after night. You play cards with different-shaped rooms to gradually expand the dungeon towards The Warden's lair, then battle your way through the labyrinth. It's unusual because as you build the dungeon, you want to balance challenge with survivability, to maximise your rewards but not make it impossible.

Our accessibility examiner, Ben Kendall, first checked Into The Restless Ruins accessibility 10 months ago.

NotesAccessibility Notes

Holds are required for some actions, such as breaking seals or starting a new run. The game is very high-pressure as you are continually against the clock when inside the dungeon. Fail too many times and you have to start again completely. You cannot save mid-run.

Text is all high in contrast but less than 1/20th of screen height.

While you can see the entire dungeon (including locked areas) when you're using cards to place rooms, when you're actually inside the dungeon, there is no map, nor are there any navigational assists. Additionally, the torch gets darker as it wanes, so by the end of a run, you can only see a small area around you, making navigation more challenging.

Different objects have different textures and shapes as well as colours, so the game is colourblind friendly despite having no colourblind modes.
