All Will Rise

All Will Rise is a communication game where you play a young activist taking the rich and powerful to court over their environmental destruction. You build a team of like-minded people and a deck of evidence cards to prosecute the defendants. It stands out for its cases based on real-world scenarios and for the unusual card-based conversation battles.

You play Kuyili, a young lawyer and environmental activist who takes a powerful executive to court over the environmental harm caused by their company. You gather a ragtag team of passionate people and set off to gather evidence to use in your case. This enables you to build your argument, convince witnesses to talk and get powerful people to join your side.

Play involves sending your allies off to gather evidence. If they are successful you gain more cards in your deck. Different combinations of people and places yield different cards, and deciding who to send where is part of the fun. You use these cards to talk to potential allies outside of court and to prosecute the defendant inside.

As you progress you learn how to create flowing conversations by playing cards (mind, gut, heart or weird) to match the tone of the person you are talking to. In this way, you choose a matching card where you have them to win them over and argue your points. How this goes determines what you gain but even if you fail an encounter you can still walk away with useful information.

The result is a game that weaves its conversational puzzle into the narrative. Working out how to build the deck you need and then use it efficiently in conversation is not only satisfying but also a novel way of engaging with the game's environmental themes.
