Play Overview
Barraka is a hand-modelled adventure where you explore a 90's small-town fair where a witch’s curse turns each attraction into a self-contained challenge. Play involves roaming the village to try the different stalls to earn abilities that let you venture further. It stands out for how it weaves its plasticine-styled mini-game challenges into a story that takes you from your mother's warm churro stand to magical powers that save the town.
You explore the spooky fair that arrives in town by chatting with locals and diving into each fair stall as a bespoke puzzle. Bumper cars, whack-a-mole, target shooting, the haunted house and even the circus—clearing challenge each earn you coins to unlock equipment to access new areas. In this way, although it's powered by mini-games, this is an experience that offers more of an adventure.
As you progress, you work to complete challenges and gain the magic you need to take on the witch. You also need to keep your eyes peeled for new stalls, secrets and booths returning with new twists. Things do get more difficult, but along with its toy-like aesthetic, this is an ideal game for youngsters
The result is a game that looks unique from its hand-made stop-motion visuals. The developer literally modelled it out of clay, then took photos one at a time to create the movement. This is topped off with the perfectly 1990s small-village setting and storybook-style adventure.
