Play OverviewPlay Overview

Buckshot Roulette (2023) is a horror-themed brain game where you must survive what is a deadly twist on Russian Roulette. You and your opponent take turns choosing to shoot either yourself or each other, and if you get shot with a real bullet rather than a blank you lose a life. It stands out for its challenge of making statistically intelligent choices about who to shoot, while the game does all it can to shock and distract you with horror elements.

Play is split into three rounds with a set number of lives per round. You win the round if your opponent, known only as the Dealer, loses all their lives before you do. The shotgun is loaded with a known number of blanks and a known number of real bullets in an unknown order. You then take turns shooting either yourself or your opponent until one of you is shot with a real bullet and loses a life.

At first, it's primarily a game of luck, although you can remember what has already been shot to inform your choice. In the second round, you are both given two items every time the gun is loaded which can help you in different ways: skipping a go, making the Dealer skip a go, or seeing what will be fired next. In the third round, this is increased to four items per gun load. By carefully considering the current state of play, you can use each item for a tactical (and statistical) advantage over the Dealer.

The result is a game that's both deeply tactical and suspenseful. Carefully using your items to try and gain the upper hand against your opponent, while they do the same thing, makes for a tense yet highly engaging game of skill and tactical ambition.
