Cat God Ranch (2024) is a tactical sequencing game where you organise animals in your farmyard to maximise their yields. Play involves adding Animal cards to your deck that have requirements most likely to increase their output. It stands out for how you must work with the complex web of interdependent relationships between each animal.
You are the ranch manager tasked with growing your herd of animals to please the Cat God. By the end of each week, you need to have met the required quota to continue. You can't specify exactly where each animal is positioned each round, but by carefully selecting which Animal, Tile and Talent cards you add to your herd, you influence the likelihood of upscaled production.
As you progress, you learn the different benefits and requirements of the seven animal families. You can feed animals to the carnivores or watch an army of penguins and pandas propagate across your ranch. Do well, and the Cat God grants you Prop cards, which add useful modifiers to your daily earnings.
The result is a game as much about mathematical production as it is about cosy farming. The two elements work together surprisingly well as you find new and unexpected combinations.
