Play OverviewPlay Overview

Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed (2024) is a running and jumping adventure where you play Mickey Mouse and use a magical paintbrush to restore the world. You explore a dilapidated land inhabited by forgotten Disney characters and use your paintbrush to restore or remove objects and buildings, defeat enemies, and create platforms and paths with which you traverse. It's these unusual paintbrush interactions that make the game stand out, offering a choice between renewal and removal that can impact what and how you fight, who you talk to, and even how the game unfolds.

This is a remake of Disney Epic Mickey originally on the Wii, where you play the iconic Mickey Mouse after he is sucked into a world he unwittingly created, called Wasteland, filled with twisted versions of classic Disney locations and lesser-known characters. Aided by a magic paintbrush that can bring colour and life back to objects, or remove them with paint thinner, you set out on a daring adventure to defeat the forces of evil.

Play involves running and jumping through the world and using your brush in various ways to progress. The Rebrushed Remake adds new abilities such as sprinting and dashes to your arsenal. You often need to use the brush to remove obstacles or create new platforms to help you reach certain areas. You can also use it to defeat many enemies, either by removing them or by making them friendly. You can interact with the characters you meet and complete quests and activities for them in exchange for collectables and items. There are two ways to approach these interactions using the two modes of your brush. How you choose to approach each encounter affects the outcome and even how the story unfolds, letting you avoid certain fights and progress in different ways. 2D platforming sections inspired by classic Disney cartoons add some variety, offering a different style of play to the majority of the game's 3D play.

The result is a game that offers a surprising level of freedom to explore its systems and make your own choices about how you want to play through your paintbrush. Finding clever solutions to platforming puzzles and seeing the results of your actions change the unfolding makes for a unique time.

In addition to the original and the Rebrushed remake, there are several sequels, all of which follow a similar style of play but with differing stories:
  • Disney Epic Mickey (2010) on Wii
  • Disney Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion (2012), a homage to the Illusion series of platformers, on 3DS.
  • Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two (2012), offering two-player co-op play, on Wii, Wii U, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Xbox 360 and PC.
  • Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed (2024) on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Switch.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 7 for Fear and Violence. This game features mild violence, which is mostly directed at fantasy characters, although players also encounter some cartoonish human characters. Violence is unrealistic in nature: characters do not display visible harm or hurt, enemies disappear when defeated, and Mickey melts into paint when defeated. The overall tone of the game is a little dark and the environments sometimes have an eerie atmosphere. Some of the enemies, especially the main monster, may scare younger children.

Skill Level

7+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. You need to be able to think of solutions to the different platforming puzzles by using your paintbrush to either restore or remove objects from the world.
