Play Overview
Donkey Kong Bananza (2025) is a 3D running, jumping and bashing adventure where you guide Donkey Kong through destructible worlds to recover stolen banana-shaped diamonds. To play, you explore the world and find the Golden Bananas by fighting enemies, smashing terrain, digging paths, and uncovering hidden items. It takes the open-ended structure of Super Mario Odyssey in a terrain-shattering direction to create brash tactile platforming fun as opposed to Mario's finesse and precision.
Chaos erupts when the VoidCo apes steal the precious Golden Bananas. To recover them, Donkey Kong ventures into a vast, underground world filled with danger, treasure, and mystery. You work to navigate this subterranean frontier, smashing through terrain, outwitting enemies, and aiding quirky characters along the way. It's a Journey To The Centre Of The Earth style rescue mission, in an ecosystem where nearly everything can be broken and every shattered surface hides the potential for discovery.
As you progress, the underground world unfolds in layers, revealing deeper, more complex environments filled with secrets and surprises. Destruction becomes more strategic as what you choose to break (or not break) becomes increasingly important. Collectables and shortcuts enable you to collect currency or discover side-scrolling and minecart sections, similar to the Donkey Kong Country games.
The result is a fresh take on the platforming game, which doubles down on the sandbox open world, inviting players to not only skim the surface but dive deep down to discover buried treasures.
