Play Overview
Dragon Quest XI tells a new story for the long-standing series. You play a young man who learns he is the reincarnation of the Luminary, a legendary hero destined to save the world. But after being branded a Darkspawn, he has to set off on a quest with newfound allies to discover his origins and thwart an encroaching darkness.
As you progress, exploration opens new continents, dungeons, and skyborne zones, while battles evolve through new skill unlocks, weapon crafting. The S version deepens the game’s pacing with faster combat, story vignettes for every companion.
The result is a JRPG in the line of classics, but with modern enhancements. The grand narrative meets customisable presentation options for different play styles. The new S version adds new companion storylines, orchestrated music, voice acting and sped-up combat options. You can even choose to play either in a richly detailed 3D mode or a nostalgic 16-bit 2D mode.

Skill Level
10+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it's important for parents and guardians to consider the maturity required to process the game content. It's also important to ensure children understand in-game purchases and have spending limits set-up. Players need to have good interpersonal and tactical skills. Although battles are turn-based in part, you still need timing to use the ring attacks. You need good reading and comprehension skills to follow the complex, layered story.
