Play Overview
Dungeon Clawler (2024) is a turn-based battling game where you fight monsters to escape a dungeon. Sounds familiar, but here you fight them by operating a claw machine to grab items and upgrades. It's unique because it combines familiar dungeon diving fun with an arcade-style claw challenge.
You play by building a deck of items placed into the claw machine's pool and exploring the simple dungeon to enter battle rooms. Every turn of fighting you get two chances to grab weapons, shields and boosts from your deck for your character to use against the baddies. It's important to aim carefully since some enemies can meddle with the items in the machine, making them harder to grab or transforming them into items that harm you when you pick them up.
As you progress your deck becomes larger and grabbing the items you want gets tricky. You find upgrades which let you manipulate the machine's configuration, like floating wooden items to the top by filling the tank with water. Within some of the dungeon's rooms, you also find games of chance where you can earn money or rare items.
This results in an interesting twist on regular dungeon-crawling games that takes you back to retro arcades. It's a novel twist, but one that makes the play simpler and more approachable.
