Play OverviewPlay Overview

Elden Ring Nightreign (2025) is a frantic fighting game where your squad must gear up and defeat the Nightlords. Play involves scrambling to acquire gear, defeating bosses and levelling up to beat the final boss. It stands out for the janky joy of mixing Elden Ring combat with time-pressured Fortnite-style rounds.

The goal is simple: Defeat the Nightlords. Achieving this, however, is a lot easier said than done. Like other rogue-likes, you start each round with nothing and must traverse the map with your squad to defeat minor bosses for gear, experience and power bonuses. The whole time, a ring of damaging rain closes in on you, increasingly restricting where you can go. After two cycles of this, you must face off against one of the Nightlords. These are fantastic (and fantastically hard) bosses who often take multiple attempts to beat, requiring not only strong gear but good team coordination.

As you progress, you unlock new characters that each come with their own playstyle. For instance, the Ironeye is an archer who excels at picking off opponents at a distance, or perhaps you prefer to use a range of spells, in which case the Recluse is highly proficient at that. Characters also have storylines to follow, each rewarding the player with powerful upgrades for that character, alongside a deeper understanding of them as a person.

The round-based teamwork is a refreshing revision on the Elden Ring/Dark Souls formula. It piles on the pressure to not only survive but upgrade weapons and armour, but this only makes beating the wide-ranging and inventive bosses all the better.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 16 for Strong Violence. This game contains depictions of strong, realistic violence towards human characters. Players use a large variety of weapons to damage and harm enemies. When slashing and hitting enemies with melee weapons, blood effects can be seen spraying out onto the floor and players' clothes. This game also features pictures and sounds likely to be scary or frightening to young children. Environments in the game feature desolate castle ruins filled with gruesome and horrific-looking enemies. Some enemies are particularly disturbing in their design, featuring gaping mouths with rows of teeth and more. Some areas are also littered with corpses as part of the surroundings and environment. This is especially seen in the battleground areas, where fallen soldiers are found across different camps. One area has a dragon impaled on a large ruin.

12+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it's important for parents and guardians to consider the maturity required to process the game content. It's also important to ensure children understand in-game purchases and have spending limits set-up. The skill level required is very high; players must be able to react very quickly and decide what the appropriate response is to an enemy's attack.
