Play Overview
Folder Dungeon is a battle played inside a computer operating system. You traverse the different folders to find loot and defeat enemies while ensuring you don't overheat the computer. It stands out for the way it uses the unique setting to introduce novel twists on dungeon crawling.
You play the mouse pointer of an operating system and must traverse the computer's files to find secrets and loot, with the ultimate goal of finding the Exit folder and escaping. Play involves clicking on different folders, which act as the rooms of a dungeon, to explore, defeat enemies, and collect power-ups. You defeat enemies by clicking on them, and then enter their files to collect coins and boosts which increase your attack power or heal you.
Every action you take generates heat, and too much heat makes the system shut down. You can find items which cool the computer back down. In this way, you learn to regulate heat as you do your health. You can also find secret areas and hidden files which contain the best resources and help you delve deep into the system. When you die, you start again from scratch, but with the knowledge you gained in the previous run, you can gradually progress further and further until you're able to escape.
The result is a game that captures the essence of trying to find that one long-forgotten file and turns it into a novel adventure. The unique overheating mechanic and the way you progress through the files make for an unusual but engaging challenge.
