Play Overview
Hohokum (2014) is a traversal adventure where you steer a kite-like tadpole creature to trigger objectives in a diverse psychedelic world pulsing with life. Play involves swimming through the world to bring colour, life and deliveries (or breakages) to the people and objects you find. It stands out for its focus on visually satisfying scenes and interactions rather than points and timers.
You pilot a colourful long-tailed tadpole character around cartoony-organic game levels, finding wholesome tasks to complete like collecting passengers on your back and delivering them to their destinations. Unlike more linear adventures, levels are open playgrounds where you take on goals at your own pace. In fact, half the fun is poking around to discover what you can interact with and how to put it to use through experimentation.
As you progress you explore new themed worlds with more unique features to discover and play with. For example, shoals of fish swim by your side in an underwater world. Because all the worlds are open from the start you can choose how and when you move on from worlds when you've explored.
The result is a game which encourages you to roam freely in quirky, interactive playgrounds without pressure from scoreboards or ticking timers.

6+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. The game is non-linear and doesn't have a tutorial, so despite most puzzles being simple to solve, it can be tricky to understand what to do next. Sometimes it's hard to discern what is an object to use and what is just the backdrop. Still, young players can enjoy exploring and playing in the open spaces.
