Hopshot (2025) is a super-hard hopping game where you control a lonely gay frog with a gun trying to escape the wishing well. Play involves precise jumps onto static and moving platforms, aided by shooting your pistol not to kill but to gain extra hopping height. It stands out for its hard-won progress that can be lost by one misplaced jump.

It's a game about planning your routes, discovering secrets that might help you and destroying anything in your way. You can only move by hopping, so positioning yourself in the right spot before attempting a jump is crucial. The length of time you hold the jump button determines the distance of your jump, which offers both another challenge and the ability to adjust your position. You can also fire your gun behind you to gain more momentum.

As you progress, you learn not only how to make use of your abilities but also the environment around you - sometimes bouncing off ledges or collecting a gun to help you. Generally, you get used to reading the level design and working out how best to progress.

The result is a game that's super hard with very little in the way of assistance or checkpoints. But this makes beating it all the more satisfying.
