Play Overview
IdleOn - The Idle RPG (2021) (previously Legends of IdleOn) is a role-play game where you build a character who then fights for you. Play involves choosing how they level up and what enhancements to spend money on. It stands out for how you develop a team of characters who carry on questing, crafting and farming even while you are not playing.
As you build up your character the game puts more and more challenging obstacles and enemies in your path. To overcome this you learn to cast spells on bosses, talk with other players, complete quests, and level up skills. Unusually, while you are offline and not playing, your characters continue to fight on your behalf, gathering resources, crafting items, and defeating enemies. When you come back you can see how well (or badly) they are fairing.
As you progress you can create additional characters. Like your main character, these also work for you while you are away. This means that you hone each character to specialise in certain types of combat or activity - mining, smithing, alchemy, fishing and woodcutting to name a few. You soon have a menagerie of heroes each with unique abilities, talents, tasks and quests.
The result is a game that is more about training and building a team than it is about actually fighting and adventuring. The game is already huge in terms of options, and the developers continue to add new ways to train your characters or challenges to meet. It's a growing labyrinth of ways to succeed and fail, the fun is discovering these for yourself and coming up with novel ways of using the systems to your advantage.
