Into The Dead: Our Darkest Days (2025) is a simulation about leading a group of survivors out of a zombie-ridden city. You stealthily move from safe house to safe house, gathering what you can to survive while also managing the group's growing tensions. It stands out for the novel way it combines having to scavenge among zombies with leading a team that's losing hope.

You play a group of survivors of a zombie apocalypse in 1980s Texas, desperate to get to a safe house outside the city. On your way, you encounter more inhabitants and gradually grow your group. Together you work not only how to avoid the zombies but also to maintain order and morale in the face of lengthening odds.

Play involves choosing a group member to venture out from your safe house to look for resources. You guide them through the city to find food and materials to craft weapons and valuable equipment where zombies patrol the buildings and streets. Observing their routes and moving silently is crucial to surviving. If you're spotted, you can use guns and scraps to defeat them although this depletes valuable ammunition.

Fail to survive and you lose that member of your group. Not only reducing your numbers but making the already-tense group harder to manage. You must continually decide who scavenges the city and which new people to let into your group.

The result is a game where the decisions you make can directly affect who lives and dies. Sometimes the right thing to do is to protect a strong or popular group member at the cost of taking a weaker but less important member out on patrol. Trying to keep the group alive but also progress towards the rumoured safe haven is tense and often requires you to choose between two equally bad options.
