Play Overview
Iron Meat (2024) is a running, jumping and shooting game about an agent on a mission to kill an evil scientist in a post-apocalyptic world. Play is like the Contra arcade games, where you must deal with platforming and shooting simultaneously as the levels get increasingly chaotic. It stands out for reimagining this retro classic with comically increased gore.
Set in the apocalyptic future where a ravenous infection spreads worldwide, you play an agent sent to stop its creator. Play involves traversing each stage, defeating enemies and navigating hazards to reach the boss. It's an intentionally difficult challenge that forces you to continually swap your active weapon to be most effective against the stream of enemies.
Progression is determined by how quickly you clear out the enemies and adapt to your surroundings. In addition to the huge combat challenge, there are lots of hazards and traps, like meat-infected platforms and spikes. You die often, but by persisting and learning the layout of each stage, you can eventually make it to the end.
The result is a game that requires you to master the movement and combat simultaneously. Brute forcing your way through one close call to another to save everyone is both trying and rewarding.
