Play Overview
Jack Jeanne (2023) is a narrative rhythm game where you romance your classmates at a prestigious drama school. You choose classes to improve your dramatic abilities and attract your chosen partner, then sing and dance in the school's performances. It's unusual for the way you balance your school duties and romantic schemes, as well as the narrative tension of concealing your gender in an all-boys school.
You play Kisa Tachibana, a girl wanting to pursue a career in the arts, following in the footsteps of her elder brother at a prestigious all-boys Univeil Drama School. After a chance meeting with the school's principal, she's allowed to enroll on the condition that her gender is kept secret. Upon joining the school, you must take part in different classes and the various performances throughout the year, while at the same time, you choose to romance your classmates.
Play involves talking to different characters, deciding what classes to go to and which character to romance, and completing extravagant rhythm minigame performances. By attending different classes, you improve different skills, each found attractive by a different character.
Romancing your desired character requires you to improve the corresponding skill, while also not tiring yourself out by attending too many classes. To perform you must press different buttons to the beat, matching up with the music. By making different choices about what to say and do, you see different events, scenarios, and side characters, and the fun lies in seeing where your actions lead you.
The result may sound like a strange mixture of rhythm game, dating simulator, and visual novel, but it works surprisingly well. Figuring out how to romance each character and finding the balance between classes and rest is part of the fun, and paired with the rhythm performances makes for a refreshingly unique twist on the genre.
