Play OverviewPlay Overview

King Of The Bridge (2024) is a puzzle game where you must beat a troll at a cursed game of chess that has secret additional rules. Every time you break a rule, you lose the game but record the note in your journal, to slowly discover them all. It stands out for the necessity of close attention and trial-and-error to understand how to win.

You try to cross a bridge, but a troll blocks your way, only letting you pass once you beat him at a game of chess. However, play normally and you quickly get caught "cheating", by breaking his made-up rules. In retaliation, the troll also gets to cheat, immediately defeating you. Every time you cheat, the rule you broke gets added to your rule book, until eventually you compile a list of all the rules you need to follow.

Rather than mastering chess, success is about using these rules to win and take all the troll's pieces. Just like regular chess, you need to think ahead and carefully plan out your strategy, referring to the rules to try and find inventive move sequences that give you an advantage. Pay close attention, and you can also spot the troll cheating occasionally. If you can point out exactly how he cheated you get to cheat too, giving you a huge advantage that's key to victory.

The result is a game that subverts classic chess strategy by gradually uncovering the bizarre made-up rules. Learning the best strategies enabled by these rules is a lot of fun, and catching your opponent cheating rewards your attentiveness and offers a crucial path to success.
