Marvel Rivals (2024) is a shooting traversal game where you take control of different Marvel superheroes to defeat other players. Working in a team or on your own, you choose from a continually expanding roster of heroes to play as, from obscure cult favourites to Iron Man and Captain America. It stands out not just because of its ties to popular comic books and films but also because each character has unique moves, strengths, and weaknesses that enable deep strategy and synergy with your teammates.
Play involves using your chosen hero's abilities and attacks, from flying through the air as Star-Lord to punching opponents as the Hulk, to defeat your opponents. Each of the over 30 characters in the ever-expanding roster has different strengths and weaknesses, suiting a different style of play. Discovering the novel ways you can capitalise on your strengths and minimise your weaknesses is part of the fun, and choosing heroes that complement your teammates is key to gaining a competitive edge over your foes.
As you play on the stages inspired by iconic film and comic book locations, from a futuristic Tokyo to the halls of Asgard, your attacks can destroy the environment and change how you need to play. As cover gets destroyed and new pathways are created, you need to be continually rethinking the best spots for catching your opponents off-guard.
