Play OverviewPlay Overview

Mass Effect 3 (2012) is a science fiction shooting game where you must defend the galaxy from a sentient race of machines. Play involves completing missions using either combat or conversation to gain support for the ensuing war. It stands out for the world-changing moral choices that impact disease control and species survival.

You play as Commander Shepard one final time as you attempt to unite the galaxy against the Reaper threat. The tone, while still dark and gritty, is one of hopelessness and desperation, epitomised in the devastated planets you visit. The gameplay is similar to Mass Effect 2, but with more variety and deeper character customisation.

As you progress, you face difficult choices. These offer an unusual degree of nuance that escapes the usual right or wrong judgements, with many still debated amongst fans to this day. Decisions you made in prior games impact on the available outcomes here. For example, you need to have pursued diplomatic solutions previously to have the peaceful option in this game.

This results in a game that underlines the impact of your actions on a micro and macro scale. The choices you make on an individual and galactic level play out before your eyes.
