Play Overview
Modulus (2024) is a puzzle game where you sequence factories to cut, colour, stamp, and assemble the blocks you require. Play involves designing, constructing and linking these factories that each apply a process that (hopefully) results in the required blocks. It stands out from other factory simulation games because you are actually designing the process rather than just managing resources.
Play involves dragging and dropping the different factories into place and connecting them. You design how each element adjusts the blocks it receives to ensure you have the required piece by the end of the process. Projects seem simple at first, however, buildings and new machines require careful planning before chaos ensues.
Progression is determined by how quickly you can construct these increasingly complex factory systems. If you make enough blocks, you can invest in higher-tech machines to speed up production. Although each challenge starts quite organised, this steadily becomes frantic and chaotic as you battle to complete more and more ideas. Because of the game's sandbox nature, you can work at your own pace and come up with your own solutions.
The result is a game where the fun lies in the endless optimisations and adjustments you can make to your systems. The freedom to design whatever factory you desire creates a rewarding and satisfying experience.
