Play OverviewPlay Overview

News Tower (2024) is a simulation game about dealing with the pressures of building and managing your dream news agency. Play involves training and hiring employees to scavenge for the top stories to get high ratings and keep readers hooked for longer. Making the graphs go up is part of the fun, but the real interest is the questionable pressures and compromises to create an influential news outlet.

Set in a 1930 American city, you play a news agency owner building both news output and a physical news tower building. You must manage staff, newspapers and marketing to keep the ratings high. As you research local stories you arrange them in importance to keep the headlines clear. The catch is that the more exciting the news, the larger the facilities and staff needed to cover it. In this way, you must balance the allure of costly headlines with the need to deliver strong profits.

Progression is determined by how quickly you find headline-making news. Make enough money and you can invest in employees who can dive deeper into interesting topics. What starts as a simple, organised business steadily becomes frantic and chaotic as you battle to balance the books. As your influence grows, you can take your business into more fraught topics from politics to sports and capture your target audience.

The result is a game where the fun lies in the endless optimisations and adjustments you can make to your business. Gradually expanding while improving influence and profitability can be challenging, but it's precisely this challenge that makes success so rewarding.
