Play Overview
Pinball Spire (2024) is a traversal game where you play a pinball exploring a magical tower. You use bumpers and special powers to bounce through rooms, find secrets, and collect coins that unlock new paths. It's unusual because the indirect control of your movement requires you to work with each area's specific geography, bumpers and ramps to make progress.
You play Pip, a young pinball who investigates a mysterious tower in the forest. Play involves moving through the different rooms and connecting tunnels to the top. It's essentially a labyrinthine game of pinball, where you use flippers and bumpers at the bottom of each room to launch yourself up. To begin with you lean on your luck but as you master the geography and angles of each room you can command greater control and reach new locations.
You can unlock special abilities to help line up shots and move more precisely. Provided you've killed enough enemies to store up power, this lets you do things like slow down time, view the direction the bumper will shoot you in or even set enemies on fire and boost yourself midair.
The result is a game that combines adventure with physics-based traversal and movement to create a unique challenge. Rather than fighting enemies, the fun lies in learning to master getting around using your abilities and the environment to the fullest.
