Play OverviewPlay Overview

Slay The Princess (2023) is a narrative game that flips the familiar Slay the Dragon, Save the Princess story in a horror direction. Play involves exploring the world and making choices you hope will kill the princess, however, both she and the narrator persuade you to take wrong turns. It's a simple challenge that seems immediately within reach, but with nothing more than conversation stopping you, it becomes more difficult than it first appears.

You set out on a path in the woods. At the end of that path, you see a cabin. In the basement of that cabin is a princess. Your mission is simple, kill the princess or the world will end. However, she can (and will) do everything in her power to stop you. Charm you, lie to you or even promise you your heart's desire.

With the voice of the narrator and the princess vying for your attention, you have to decide who to trust (or, perhaps neither of them). Decision by decision you work towards killing her, but you soon find unexpected twists and turns. It's not until you fail and try again that you see just how branching and different each route through the story can be. In many ways it's not a branching narrative game at all, it's more of a memorable horror story.

The result is a perfectly simple horror game, with a suspiciously simple premise. It's unnerving and intriguing through its well-voiced characters and sketched art style that changes to match your choices and progress.
