Play Overview
Technobabylon (2015) is a cyberpunk point-and-click adventure where you play three different characters who must unravel a sinister AI conspiracy. You explore the neon-lit environment, right-clicking to examine objects and left-clicking to interact with them, talking to the people you meet and solving sequence-based puzzles. It stands out for its layered narrative, switching between perspectives to reveal unexpected connections, evolving relationships, and the hidden significance each character has in the high-stakes plot.
In each chapter, you play either police officer Charles Regis, his partner Max Lao - both investigating a series of brain-hacking murders - or Latha, an unemployed virtual reality addict. You search with your cursor for points of interest or people to talk to, and interact with them to collect an item, explore the area, or learn something new. In this way, you complete multiple-step puzzles; for example, when you get locked in your room, you must corrupt your AI food vendor so it dispenses a fork that you use as a makeshift key.
As you progress, the puzzles become more complex and soon you need to combine items to find their use, such as salvaging makeshift components to repair broken machines. Along the way, you meet allies, enemies, and traitors who steer the story through twists and turns. Some dialogue choices and actions branch the narrative and lead to different endings.
The result is a cyberpunk game with multiple parallel narratives that gradually converge. The voice acting, atmospheric soundtrack, and retro visuals all add to the dystopian themes that run throughout.
