Play Overview
Terra Memoria (2024) is a fantastical adventure battle game about a quest to find missing power crystals. Play involves exploring the world, completing puzzles and errands, building a community town and battling foes in turn-based fights. It stands out for its cute fantasy world that draws you away from singularly chasing one objective and into happy distractions as you explore.
You play a Rihno mage on a mission to find the missing crystals and discover what is awakening the ancient, destructive robots. With five friends you explore the magical world, get to know the other inhabitants, take on quests and solve puzzles to make your way into increasingly dangerous territories. Like Pokemon, in battle you take turns to attack, trying to pick moves that target your enemies' elemental weaknesses. Here though, the trick is choosing the right team-up moves from amongst your allies. For example, Opal can change the element of her partner's move to make it more powerful against an opponent's weakness.
As you progress, you enhance your characters' attributes such as health and strength with food, which you cook in a simple rhythm minigame, and pins, which are forged by Opal. You can build your own custom town by placing houses, paths, gardens and farms for the local people to populate, who give you side quests to tackle.
The result is a cute exploration game that's more about heartwarming friendship and storytelling than an extreme challenge. The combination of 2D-pixel art characters and a 3D environment is nostalgic and visually pleasing, laying a comforting foundation for the entire experience.
