Play OverviewPlay Overview

Blade Ball (2023) is a dodgeball-style sports game where players use their sword-like weapons to deflect the ball at each other to be the last man standing. Like dodgeball, you mustn't get hit by the ball or you are out, here you can move around freely and use weapons and abilities to gain the upper hand. It's a game that stands out for its popularisation of a long line of similar games (Pyro Dodgeball, Genji Dodgeball and Deflect).

Blade Ball is a test of your reactions and spatial awareness. There aren't sides like a classic dodgeball game, so you must deal with the ball coming at you from any direction and via multiple deflections from tens of other players. You can't catch the ball but must deflect it away with your sword. Each time someone does this the speed of the ball increases.

To do well you need to learn to deal with both the speed of the ball and the position of other players. You can earn or purchase abilities to help. These range from the affordable Dash, Super Jump, Quad Jump and Platform to the much more expensive Reaper, Telkinesis and Pull. These open up new ways to surprise and out-maneuver other players. For example:
  • Pull: Makes the ball target you next. You can use this after the ball has just hit another player to then target them again and get through any blocks they have.
  • Forcefield: Automatically deflects the ball for 10 seconds.
  • Freeze: Stops the ball from moving for 5 seconds.
  • Telekinesis: Stops the ball for 5 seconds then moves very quickly to catch someone off guard.

The result is a highly competitive game with a high skill ceiling. This combination of different abilities and evolving strategies creates a surprisingly nuanced competitive game. Not only do you need to keep an eye on the ball and other players but also what abilities your opponents have compared to your own. Can you cancel out their advantage, gain the upper hand or maybe have a way to escape a showdown that you are underpowered to win.

Players use sword weapons but target the ball rather than each other. When the ball hits you, the character falls to part with arms, legs and head separating. The body parts are left on the floor and the game says that you got killed (or killed another player).

Skill Level

7+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it's important for parents and guardians to consider the maturity required to process the game content. It's also important to ensure children understand in-game purchases and have spending limits set-up. You need fast reactions to hit the ball away. You also need resilience when other players target you.

This game is free to play, but there are other costs associated with this game:
  • In-Game Loot Boxes: Additional in-game purchases are offered for items that enhance the experience. These include in-game purchases of random items (known as 'loot boxes') that offer a chance of getting rare/higher-value items although common/lower-value items are more frequent.

Many families choose to pay for an In-Game Subscription that grants access to features and Robux currency for use in any Roblox games without the risk of individual transactions. Outside the game, you can make larger purchases.

This subscription grants 450 Robux a month as well as discounts on buying more Robux and access to selling and trading items with other subscribed Roblox players. The games generally encourage the spending of Robux to progress as a proportion of the money spent goes to the person who creates the game.

You can purchase Abilities by spending coins on them directly or the chance to spin a wheel. You can get this Coins currency by doing well in the game or purchasing it with Roblux. However, earning is very slow and most players are likely to want to spend Robux to advance more quickly.

It's important to set up your accounts and devices appropriately. More information is on our Financial Resources page.
