Play Overview
Bloodless (2024) is an adventure fighting game where, rather than attacking the enemy, you aim to block and counter to disarm and embarrass them. Play involves exploring the world and taking on the foes you meet in counter-based, non-lethal combat. It stands out for the fun of disarming rather than killing enemies, which has the side benefit of making it more family-friendly.
You must help Ronin Tomoe confront the ghosts of her past and end the reign of violence of Shogun Akechi, her former master. Play is like a retro dungeon adventure staged in the atmospheric lands of Bakugawa. The twist is that you have sworn not to take another life. So you must fight with nothing but bare fists to disarm the samurai army of Shogun Akechi.
As you progress you hone your defensive fighting skills by learning the special ki techniques. This enables you to perform combos and series of attacks. Then there are enhancements from wearing crests or taking the herb infusions you find across the land of Bakugawa.
The result is a game where a non-violent approach to war is experienced in an unusual way. Tomoe is seen as a coward and deserter through the eyes of her people, but bravely returns to the land to spark hope and courage.

10+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it's important for parents and guardians to consider the maturity required to process the game content. You need to have good reactions to pull of the disarm counter moves. Resilience to try again when you die is also important.
