Blumgi Racers (2024) is a traversal race game where you take on different courses to use the physics of your vehicle to get the fastest time possible. In addition to driving, you use a propeller to fly through the air, and the various obstacles and hazards to alter your trajectory. It stands out for the unexpected (and often unintended) ways you exploit the stages and your movement to reach the finish in record time.
Across 100 levels of slopes, channels and obstacles, you drive your car to the finish line as quickly as you can. Your time is recorded, and you get gold, silver, or bronze medals based on how quick you are. By pressing space, you use a propeller to float into the air. Using this in conjunction with tilting your car enables you to move forward and backwards without touching the ground.
While the levels start as simple sprints, they quickly become more complex as obstacles such as bouncy walls, fans that propel you in a certain direction, and huge jumps are introduced. To get a gold medal you must master the movement of your car and use the environment to your advantage, often ignoring the ground entirely and discovering ambitious tricks to reach the end faster. As you play you get new vehicles with different physics, which you can then use to go back to previous stages and try for a better time.
The result is a game where mastering the controls, on land and in the air, of your car and persevering to improve your time is where the challenge lies. Experimenting with the limits of your movement as you use the stage to your advantage in ambitious moves and tricks is both great fun and essential to getting gold medals.
