Play OverviewPlay Overview

Capes (2024) is a turn-based battle game set in a world where supervillains have won, and possessing superpowers is a crime. Play involves recruiting a team of heroes and then taking on villains to win back the city. It stands out for the original (non-Marvel or DC) take on superheroes, and how abilities powerfully combine on the battlefield.

You play through a series of campaign and patrol missions, which either advance the story or let you explore side missions to unlock more heroes. Each encounter is turn-based so you can take your time with how you approach it. You take four heroes into each mission and must choose carefully not only to match the challenge you face but to maximise team-ups that offer unique new abilities from each of their allies.

As you progress you learn more about each hero and can recruit new characters each with specific powers and abilities. The key to doing well is learning and exploiting each hero's unique play style. This enables you to build their power in combat to unleash their personal tide-turning Ultimates and team up with each other for further enhancements.

The result is a game with a real grasp of the fun of superheroes. But this isn't a game where grinding to get better states is the way to win. Power doesn't make you invulnerable, far from it. Your choices will make the difference between victory and defeat.

Skill Level

11+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it's important for parents and guardians to consider the maturity required to process the game content. You need to think ahead to form strategies. Being willing to be defeated (which can be caused by a single member of your team dying) and trying again is important. Taking on missions in creative ways and putting team-up moves to good use also helps.

Capes usually costs £32.99 to £33.99.
