Play Overview
Flappy Bird (2013) is a retro traversal game where you guide a small bird through gaps between a series of pipes. You play by just tapping the screen to flap and increase your height, in an effort to work against gravity to guide your bird through the gaps without hitting the pipes. It stands out for becoming instantly popular when released in 2013, and for the simple tough challenge where you try, fail and try again.
It's a game about controlling a bird, Faby, who is attempting to fly between columns of green pipes without hitting them. It seems simple, but the challenging balance of flapping just enough to counteract gravity soon makes it a knife-edge challenge. Each pipe you pass increases your score by one.
Once you die, which happens often, you are awarded a bronze medal for reaching ten or more points, a silver medal for twenty points, a gold medal for thirty points and the coveted platinum medal for forty points.
The result is a game that balances fun and frustration. Getting through a few pipes requires good timing, but as you go on it's nerves of steel as much as good reactions that land the highest scores.
