Play Overview
Frontline: War of Echoes is a running and jumping capture-the-flag game, complicated by time-rewind clones of yourself fighting back on the enemy team. Play involves platforming and blasting through destructible arenas to return the enemy's flag to your base, but each time you do, your exact run is added to those trying to foil your next attempt. It stands out for transforming a straightforward flag-capture premise into a self-versus-self battle where the real challenge is remembering what you did previously, and not causing unexpected problems for yourself.
It's an endless war where every capture rewinds time, spawning a clone of your past self on the opposite side. The mission is simply to steal the enemy flags, but the battlefield becomes increasingly complex as more echoes of you appear.
As you progress through levels, you run, jump, shoot, and lay traps in 8 different arenas, each with distinct hazards and layouts. Unlocking medals grants upgrades like double jumps, mines, rocket launchers, or defensive gadgets. The real challenge is to keep a handle on the chaos so each capture is successful without adding too much challenge to your next attempt.
The result is a fast, layered platformer where time travel mechanics create escalating battles against yourself. What starts as a straightforward run-and-gun challenge evolves into a tense strategy game of anticipating your prior movements and countering them with new tactics.
