Play OverviewPlay Overview

Mario Kart World (2025) is a kart racing game that extends the fun to include free-roaming open-world elements, alongside new modes. Play involves going head-to-head with 24 other players, using your abilities and power-ups to get (and stay) ahead. It stands out for the hectic online racing and knock-out battle modes that up the competition.

This builds on the success of the previous games in the Mario Kart series. Again, you choose one of the 40 characters from the Mario series in customisable go-karts. Different racing modes include a Grand Prix, Knock Out Tour that slowly whittles down the field and Free Roam where you explore the Mario Kart world to find surprises.

As you progress, you learn to use new mechanics like the Charge Jump, where you leap onto rails and perform wall rides for boosts. Free Roam mode offers an interconnected map that players can explore beyond traditional race tracks. You can find diverse terrains, hidden challenges and collectibles.

This results in a kart racing game with many more competitors in one race, new (and old) courses, and, of course, enhanced visuals on the Switch 2.
