Play Overview
You play the Straw Hat Crew of pirates on one of their adventures, set after the anime TV show. They get stuck on a mysterious island and must gain the trust of two locals and defeat monsters creating raging storms. One of the two locals, Lim, has a magical power that sends the Straw Hat Crew back in time, where they relive important events through a "what if?" lens. Play involves moving about the present and the past to solve puzzles, talk to characters, and battle enemies. Each character has special abilities which can be used to traverse the environment, as well as defeat enemies in combat.
Fights are turn-based, but rather than characters having a set sequence in which they attack, you choose who to use first each time. Every party member and opponent is assigned one of three "types", which are each strong against one other, as in rock, paper, scissors. Additionally, the battlefield is split into different areas, with fighters unable to battle against opponents in other zones until all those in their own zone are defeated. You must learn to take advantage of these two systems and carefully choose who to use where on the field to deal maximum damage. Winning fights awards experience which increases your power. Standard attacks are accompanied by special moves unique to each hero, which reference their actions from the show and provide humour and extravagant action in equal parts.
The result is a game that rewards longtime One Piece fans with a strategic and engaging interactive adventure, complete with dramatic action, quirky humour, and a strong narrative. Learning how best to sequence your heroes and master the novel combat system is a fun challenge that rewards clever thinking and ambition.
