Play OverviewPlay Overview

Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville (2019) is a shooting game where you battle for supremacy between weaponised plants and attacking zombies. Play involves moving around the arena without being shot, while also using your fantastical plant weapons to inflict damage and fend off the zombies. It stands out for being a shooting game where comedic zombies and funny plant powers keep things away from pure violence.

It is a third-person shooting game (and the third instalment of the third-person Plants vs. Zombies games). Like the previous games, you control the Plants or the Zombies in a range of cooperative or competitive modes. Along with moving efficiently and shooting accurately, you need to best use the 23 customizable characters, each with different plant powers and zombie abilities.

The result is a game that is highly competitive and a lot of fun. It's a great alternative to Call of Duty and other more realistic shooting games for younger players.

Our examiner, Rich Adams, first checked Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville 4 years ago. It was re-examined by Andy Robertson and updated 4 weeks ago.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 7 for Violence. The violence is unrealistic. You must shoot zombies with peas, needles, lasers, rockets etc. Depending on the unit and weapons used, the number of hits needed to kill an enemy differs greatly. When a zombie is killed, it falls over and ‘plops’ away. There is no blood or gore. It’s all cartoony (plants die in the same way as the zombies). The sound effects strengthen this cartoony vibe, as do the graphics and models used in the game. There are loads of oversized objects, a bright colour scheme, loads of goofy sound effects and there’s never a real sense of danger.

Users Interact: The game enables players to interact and communicate with each other, so may expose players to language usually associated with older rated games.

Skill Level

8+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it’s important for parents and guardians to ensure they understand in-game purchases and have spending limits set-up. You need to be able to move around the world using the two-sticks for movement and the camera. Also, some fast reactions are needed for shooting. Resilience is important to deal with losing.
