Rodocodo: Code Hour (2021) is a sequencing puzzle game and a free, simplified version of the educational classroom game Rodocodo. By assembling sets of instructions from individual commands, you must guide a cat to the end goal and collect all the coins. It stands out for deftly encouraging experimentation and programming confidence as it gradually introduces fundamental coding concepts.
Across 40 levels, you must guide a cat to the finish by creating a series of individual actions. You need to look at the level and figure out the route you'll need to take, then add the actions, such as walking forward one space, turning 90 degrees, or picking up coins, in the right order. Once you've assembled your string of actions, you press play and watch the cat follow your instructions. If you make a mistake, you must then change your instructions by adjusting the command order or adding new actions.
As you progress through the stages new concepts gradually get introduced. For example, one set of levels has you change an existing set of instructions to make them work, and throughout the game, new actions you can use are introduced. Once you complete either set of levels, you can print off a certificate of completion as a reward for your achievements.
The result is a game that offers a gratifying challenge for children that encourages experimental, thought-provoking educational play. Getting to the end of each stage is always a rewarding experience and the continual introduction of new concepts keeps things engaging.
