Play OverviewPlay Overview

Splasher (2017) is a running and jumping game where you traverse a massive factory to rescue your coworkers from an evil genius. You use a cannon to shoot water and different types of ink at enemies and surfaces so you can then bounce and climb to victory. It stands out for how you combine the inks to traverse the levels in ever more efficient and quicker times.

You play as a worker at the Inkorp factory, where the employees are being used in the foul machinations of the evil Le Docteur. You rise up as a hero against your corporate overlords and race to rescue your colleagues before it's too late.

Play involves running and jumping through each of the 22 levels in the game, dodging deadly spikes and obstacles and avoiding enemies. You also have a cannon at your disposal which can shoot water, Stick ink, a Red ink that sticks to whatever it touches, and Bounce ink, which bounces you and your enemies away from it. By shooting these inks at different surfaces, like walls and platforms, and using them in conjunction with one another, you can reach otherwise inaccessible areas, enabling you to reach the end of the level and find the hidden coworkers and other collectables in each stage.

Once you've completed a level and found every collectable in it, you unlock a speedrun mode where the aim is to get through the level as quickly as possible, letting you then compare your time with other players. Getting a good time requires complete mastery of your cannon as well as a deep and thorough knowledge of the level, as well as experimentation with different routes through each area to see where you can shave off precious fractions of seconds.

The result is a game where understanding the intricacies of each stage and how to use the different types of ink to get around is essential. Learning how to get through a level and finding all your hidden coworkers within it is fun in its own right, but mastering each level and your abilities as you go for the best possible time is where the game really shines.

Rated PEGI 7 for Violence. Violence consists of your character avoiding traps and shooting at enemies with his ink gun. When hit, he explodes into ink splotches and respawns at the last checkpoint. No blood or injuries are shown. During some cut scenes, the antagonist makes a crude hand gesture with a single finger. His hand is covered by a thick mitten which lessens the amount of detail shown.

Skill Level

9+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. You need to be able to quickly switch between different paint settings, and general precision with controls is also needed, especially in the later levels, which feature lots of precise jumps. Trying to get the best time on each level pushes the importance of precision and timing even further.
