Play OverviewPlay Overview

Tents And Trees (2023) is a puzzle where you place tents next to trees based on Picross-style rules. Play involves using the number clues on each row and column to decipher where your tents must go. It stands out not only for the simple meditative challenge but for how well it leads you into new methods of solving puzzles (that can initially seem impossible).

It's like Picross, apart from the theme and the additional rule that tents must be placed by trees, and also mustn't touch each other. Each level has one unique solution to discover, so it's important to take your time and carefully plan your every move. Of note is the hint system that not only points to solutions but explains the process you could take to solve it yourself.

As you progress the grids you are solving get larger and more complex. You can work on this in solitude or invite up to three friends to come and work on it with you. This collaborative aspect of the game encourages teams to develop subtle and efficient communication. Do well and you can unlock more music and different visual themes.

The result is a mathematical challenge that doesn't feel like mathematics at all. Learning the patterns and systems required to solve the puzzles is like getting in tune with a piece of music or collaborating to weed a garden.
