Play Overview
Unforeseen Incidents (2018) is a point-and-click adventure set in a small town with an unknown disease. You play handyman Harper Pendrell who works with the people he meets to investigate what's going on to uncover the illness and hopefully stop its spread. It stands out for its visuals and voice acting, but it's the deft storytelling and class insights that keep you going until the end.
At the start of the game, you realise something is not right in your hometown. First posters about a dangerous disease start appearing, then you discover a badly infected woman on the streets. You set out to discover what is going on, and how a mysterious corporation is involved in the outbreak.
As you progress you work through the story at a steady pace by finding items and putting them to work to solve puzzles. Although the topic is pretty heavy, the tone of the characters and the game in general are relatively light-hearted. It's fully voiced and the people you meet are both interesting and believable.
The result is a game that is as good at creating a rich world and likeable characters as it is at puzzles and narrative. Unlike other point-and-click games, many of the items are there for colour as much as problem-solving. It takes its time, which may make it too long for some, but sticking with it rewards you with some surprising story beats and plot twists.
