Board Game Jaipur Review
Jaipur (2009) is a two-player collecting and trading card game where you compete to become the wealthiest merchant in an Indian market. You collect and swap cards to build combinations so that you can trade them for valuable commodities. It is about trading at the right time, for the right price - like a board game version of Bargain Hunt.

Our examiner, Rob Prior, first checked Jaipur 17 months ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 8 months ago.

Jaipur is a two-player collecting and trading card game where you compete to become the wealthiest merchant in an Indian market. You collect and swap cards to build combinations so that you can trade them for valuable commodities. It is about trading at the right time, for the right price - like a board game version of Bargain Hunt.

To start you shuffle and deal a hand of five cards to both players that represent the seven commodities (gold, cloth, camels and so on). These can be traded and act as your currency. The remaining cards are shuffled and make up the marketplace.

Each turn, a player can choose to swap cards from their hand with other cards in the marketplace or to spend their cards on commodity tokens, all of which have different scoring values. The more cards you swap at once, the more points score.

As you play, the commodities become more scarce and you race to complete a set of three. The round is then over and you count up your final scores, adding the value of your commodities to the bonuses that you have collected. The player with the highest score wins that round and the first to win two rounds is the overall winner.

The result is a game where players must balance going after the more scarce (and valuable) commodities or aiming to build combinations that require more cards but are overall worth more points. To win you need a mix of pre-planned strategy and adaptation to the trading conditions that luck and your opponent create.
