Verne: The Shape of Fantasy is a narrative adventure where you play author Jules Verne as he enters the strange world of his own novels. You talk to characters and choose what to say, traverse labyrinthine stages to avoid detection and solve brain-teasing puzzles. It stands out for the unusual use of Verne's historical science-fiction writing and how you manipulate reality to find ways to progress.

NotesAccessibility Notes

Sometimes you need to hold down buttons, sometimes multiple simultaneously, for extended periods. Other sections in the game require you to quickly press a button in response to an on-screen prompt, so quick reactions are also needed. You can't save manually, but the game does save manually every few minutes.

Some of the puzzles can be quite difficult to solve and there are no optional hints available.

Text is high in contrast but often quite small. You can change the font from the standard pixellated font to OpenDyslexic. This affects everything in the game apart from button prompts, which remain in the pixellated font.

There is an option in the settings to enable Sound Representation, which displays a textual explanation of sound effects. However, this text is quite small and only appears for a short time, so isn't particularly helpful. That said, sound effects aren't necessary to play the game, provided you can read the subtitles.
