Play Overview
A Musical Story (2022) is a rhythm game where you are a young man in the 70s coming to terms with ending up critically ill in hospital. Through flashbacks and playing along in time with the music, you discover how he got there.
The story is told through a series of 20 songs, and each song is broken down into section you hear and then repeat by pressing the right buttons. Get it right and you proceed, fail and you simply try again.
Unlike other rhythm games, A Musical Story doesn't try to make you feel like you are playing the music. It keeps things as a simple call and response. While more experienced players may balk at this staccato simplicity, for newcomers it works really well.
As you progress you hear more of the story through each of the songs, and learn about the heroes situation through the connections to his musical memory. Like Sayonara Wild Hearts, each correctly played melody opens a new chapter into Gabriel’s past, bringing him closer to the truth. If you fail you simply try again. Play every song perfectly to unlock a hidden chapter.
