Play OverviewPlay Overview

Baby Steps is a tongue-in-cheek traversal game where you play Nate, an unemployed failing son who sets out on a journey of putting one foot in front of the other. The twist is that you must control and place each foot individually while ensuring you don't overbalance. It stands out for the unusual interaction of controlling your legs and the way this is used both for a challenge and comedic effect.

The set-up for the game is that you are a living-at-home adult son whose parents are worried you've wasted your life. After discovering your ability to do this "strange" activity of walking, you set off to hike up serene mountains and take in the local fauna, on your pilgrimage to find meaning in a life spent in front of screens.

As you progress you learn to use the intentionally tricky controls to get around. You meet different people on your journey of discovery. Some help you and others, not so much. All the while the game tracks your progress with how dirty your onesie is.

The result is a game that combines novel interactions with a humorous story. It draws on previous games from the developer like Ape Out and Getting Over It to create something unique and intriguing. It's a lengthy trek up the mountain, but one you can explore at your own pace or slower.
