Play OverviewPlay Overview

Cat Quest 2 (2019) is an adventure game, the sequel to Cat Quest, about a fantasy realm of cats and dogs. You explore and talk to characters who send you on quests to kill enemies in caves or retrieve hidden items. The addition of two players in the second game makes it easy to play with a friend on the couch and explore the world as a cat and dog together.

The war between the cats of Felingard and the dogs of Lumpus brings two kings together who journey to reclaim their thrones. As you progress you can switch characters to suit the current challenge. Each feline or canine hero uses a blade, staff or wand during combat. Magicians can pick from 16 spells and all characters can upgrade abilities and weapons using coins and experience orbs that are awarded from quests. You are able to unlock new cosmetics to customize your cat or dog.

It's a relatively light introduction to the role-play and adventure genre. Along with simple controls and cute characters, the progression is steady while still offering a challenge to more experienced players.

But more than a watered-down version of older games, Cat Quest has a real identity of its own. The cat and dog puns abound (sorry), but it really works well. It doesn't take itself overly seriously which makes it more appealing than some of the Mario and Luigi adventure games. But it takes the role-play mechanics very seriously and turns out a finely tuned experience that older-focused games would be proud of.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 7 for Mild Violence. Combat is in real-time and against various fantasy enemies, using sword combos or magic spells to do damage. Enemies flicker when hit and when their health is depleted, they fade away. When the player’s character is defeated, he falls to the ground until the other character revives him. All violence is mild, but the action can get frenetic. There are several boss battles present, some of which are against intimidating or menacing characters.

Rated 9+ on the iOS app store.

Skill Level

8+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Although the visuals look appealing to very young players, there is a considerable challenge here. Once children are able to strategise and willing to repeatedly lose to progress this becomes much more fun.
