Play Overview
Chrono Sword (2024) is an adventure game about Aenor, a time traveller attempting to prevent the death of her loved ones. You learn technical combat, explore the world, switch timelines and fight off enemies to discover the secrets of the past.
Combat is central to the game and tough to master. You must perfect the attack, dodge, and shield moves to create your own combos of normal and strong attacks. The character's behaviour is highly detailed because when you're in low health, you bleed and stumble against the walls. Similarly, you can push enemies against walls if you're up close to stun them.
Along with a series of agile enemies, you face boss battles over the duration of the game. Enemies are particularly tough as they learn and adapt to your combat style and can even disarm you if, for example, you hold your shield up for too long.
Weapon stocks are kept low so you must take care with how and when you use the bows, crossbows, wands, swords, axes and hammers you find. These can be upgraded by forging them with ores. You can also unlock new skills for Aenor by finding relics; one of the many collectible items in the game.
In each of the 16 different locations, you can travel back or forwards in time to uncover secrets and clues about the area, expanding your knowledge of what happened.
Chrono Sword lets you explore where you want and make choices that impact the storyline and characters. The game's pixelated retro visuals, together with the technical and challenging combat, create an imposing world and atmosphere that keeps you on your toes as you unravel the story.
