Play OverviewPlay Overview

Clive ‘N’ Wrench is a 3D running and jumping game where you play duo, Clive the rabbit and Wrench the monkey on his back. Like Banjo Kazooie and more recent Yooka Laylee, you explore the world to collect tokens and unlock new areas. It's novel as a recreation of these games both in play style and scope. Your adventure takes you through time and space in a magical 1950s fridge.

Play involves getting the rabbit and monkey duo to jump, roll, hover and spin their way through a whole host of wacky (and highly detailed) cartoon worlds. From Egypt in Tempus Tombs to the prehistoric ice age in Iceratopsm you take on quests from varied inhabitants and unlock new areas and moves. The fun is in exploring each area and finding all the items you can, including those that have been hidden in ingenious places.

It's a game made all the more impressive because it's made by one person. He's managed to capture the spirit of Spyro the Dragon and Jak & Daxter. The result is a nostalgic retro romp in a style of game not often seen on modern consoles.

Our examiner, Jo Robertson, first checked Clive 'N' Wrench 2 years ago. It was re-examined by Andy Robertson and updated 9 weeks ago.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 7 for pictures or sounds likely to be scary to young children, as well as mild violence that lacks any apparent harm or injury to fantasy or mythical beings and creatures. Violence is mild and comical and takes place in a cartoon-style setting. Most enemies fall down with stars circling their heads or simply disappear in a puff of smoke. There are never any visible injuries. When the player's characters are hit they lose a life and may be knocked backwards or say "Ow". When defeated, they faint and respawn at a checkpoint. Bosses have a health bar that depletes and they are knocked down comically when defeated.
Some of the game's bosses and settings may be slightly scary to young children, such as a Halloween-themed area and a large dragon boss. The cartoon-style setting means they're not too scary, however.
One boss fight takes place in a casino, on a giant roulette table. The boss throws dice at the player but there's never any interaction with casino games, explanation of casino games, or glamorization of casino games.
