Play OverviewPlay Overview

Crawl (2017) is a dungeon fighting game where your friends control the monsters and traps. The hero player moves around, break boxes and attack enemies while the ghost players try and stop him. Once the hero dies they become another ghost and the next player takes over. It stands out for the frantic action and back-and-forth between the ghost and hero modes.

In this way you battle through randomly generated dungeons full of cruel traps and horrid beasts, all controlled by the other players. As you progress and level up you earn a variety of weapons, spells and items to help you take on the 60 different monsters. It's a race to gain enough experience points and loot to face the ghosts as they control the flailing limbs of the hulking final boss.

The result is an unusual game where you are only one sneaky ghost attack away from losing control. This, and the novelty of other people controlling the creatures and traps that the computer usually handles, makes it a lot of fun - particularly for groups of players in a family.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Crawl 17 months ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 10 months ago.
