Crypt Custodian (2024) is an action-adventure about Pluto, a mischievous (ex)cat tasked with cleaning up the afterlife. You traverse, dash and fight your way through the world to win powerups and take on bosses. It stands out for offering an approachable Metroidvania that steadily grows in its challenge.
Pluto the cat has just died, but after a disastrous encounter with Kendra the afterlife guardian you are banished from the afterlife and sentenced to clean. To play you explore the large palace grounds, dash over gaps and battle beasts with your trusty broom. As you do you gain new abilities that let you access more of the map, solve puzzles, discover secrets and work towards getting back into the palace!
Along the way, you make friends with other banished ghosts. By learning how they died, and why they were banished you put together a plan to save the day. Clean your way through ruined dungeons in order to collect new upgrades and abilities. Customise your play style by mix-and-matching your upgrades, and use the abilities you collect to expand your world.
The result is a lively interconnected web of islands to explore with secrets hiding in every corner.
