Play Overview
Day and Night (2019) is a puzzle game where you match blocks to score points. Unusually the game switches between different time periods that affect what you can match and how the rules work.
Play involves matching blocks against a friend or computer. You are racing to collect time-themed blocks that match the period of the day you are currently in. When the time of day changes from day to night what you can collect is reversed. As you move through time the seasons also change and provide different ways to interact with the game and trip up other players.
In two player mode you collect blocks and chain bonuses to launch seasonal attacks at your opponent. There's a survival mode and a story mode. The latter of these takes you through 6 different tales with a large cast of characters and spread across 29 acts.
The result is a game where you need to play in the moment to maximise your current blocks. But also you need to think about the future change to night time when you can stack blocks ready for that change. The combination of season specific blocks and the dark-night blocks creates a game that is entertaining and mind stretching.
